Amazon is looking for a highly motivated Systems Development and Operations Leader to drive the technical operational efficiency for AWS. The role will be responsible to manage team’s that own operational problems, excellence, and support goals for AWS Regions. We are seeking an operations manager with strong technical skills, problem solving abilities, deep customer affinity and communication skills, to lead our operations/engineering organization.

This is a highly visible role that requires both business acumen when working with senior management, a strong technical background for understanding systems and database engineering practices, and technical depth for removing development roadblocks. You will interact with a broad cross section of the Amazon organization as you trace through complex interconnected systems to improve the overall operational stance of the organization and root out any issues uncovered along the way.

- Building and Leading the System Engineering team that own building innovative solutions to operational problems and driving measurable Operational Excellence improvements across the entire organization

We are open to hiring candidates to work out of one of the following locations:

Berlin, BE, DEU

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field, plus a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience

- At least 4 years experience in Service Oriented Architectures (SOA)

- At least 4 years of system, network and database engineering experience

- At least 4 years of experience involvement with development team(s) that delivered commercial software or software-based services (development, QA testing, or security role)

- Minimum 4 years of experience with technical product management in a software development environment utilizing lifecycles such as scrum, waterfall, or agile

- Strong experience and detailed technical knowledge in system, database and network engineering

- Development experience in Java, TypeScript, Python, and/or Ruby

- Knowledge of network and web related protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, UDP, IPSEC, HTTP, HTTPS, routing protocols)

- Successful applicants must have the legal right to work in Germany

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Ability to credibly coordinate between technical teams and business stakeholders

- Effective written and oral communication with all levels of the organization including senior leadership

- Sharp analytical abilities and problem-solving skills

- Ability to prioritize and synthesize action items from disparate options and trains of thought

- Mature judgment, negotiation, and leadership skills

- Results oriented, high energy, self-motivated

- Demonstrable expertise around specifying, designing, and/or implementing system health, performance monitoring tools, and software management tools for 24x7 environments

- Familiar with the challenges surrounding efficient operations and failure mode analysis in large complex distributed system
