Job description:

The position of the guide is one of the keys for a good customer experience, as the guide is usually the person who has the most contact with the passengers. Passengers are to be welcomed with both professional and personalised service as soon as they step on board. crew should be trustworthy and comforting towards passengers. The guiding should be informative, entertaining and professional in order to enhance customer experience and increase perceived value of the tour.

Field of work

-Prioritise safety of all passengers on board

-Ensure the safety of all passengers on board by staying alert for potential hazards and taking preventative measures

-Keep passengers informed about safety throughout the tour, especially in bad weather conditions

-Stay in constant communication with other crew members during the tour

-Be an example to others

- Be positive and keep passengers entertained, even when there are no whales to be seen. It is however important not to raise expectations, and never guarantee whale encounters

-Inform passengers about the Code of Conduct, environmental issues and ocean conservation (covered in our educational material on board)

-Engage with passengers and be ready to answer questions.

Working hours

Working hours are defined according to shift manager´s plans. Working hours can be variable but should be in liaison with the employee. If a tour is cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances, The company will provide work on board or on land. If employee decides to go home, there is no salary.

In case where the employee is unable to work shifts according to plan, he is allowed, in liaison with the shift manager, to swap with another employee within in the same wage period. Working hours that are not on schedule or requested by shift manager, will not count as overtime but just as regular hours according to the shift pay system.

Payday is on the first day of the month – wage period is from the 21. – 20. each month

• Salaries are based on a shift schedule payment system.

•    Day hourly rate ISK 2.602

•    Hourly rate after 17 pm 33% ISK 3.461

•    Hourly rate weekend 45% ISK 3.773

•    Overtime hourly rate ISK 4.684

•    High holidays rate ISK 6.201

Education or training requirements

STCW Basic Safety

2-3+ year experience
